Job Summary:

As the Team Lead, Accounting, you will oversee the finance and accounting functions of the company. Your responsibilities will include managing the team’s accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, supporting budgeting and forecasting efforts, and maintaining internal controls. This role will also involve handling bookkeeping tasks, preparing financial statements, processing payments, and contributing to system implementations. Your leadership will ensure the efficient operation of the accounting department while upholding the company's mission and values.


Functional Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Culture Building: Lead and inspire a team of accountants, fostering a collaborative culture and providing mentorship and training to improve the team’s competency. Guide team members to ensure high-quality deliverables and create opportunities for professional growth.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Ensure accurate bank reconciliations and follow up on any discrepancies or queries.
  • Bad Debt Adjustments: Calculate and post bad debt adjustments as necessary, ensuring proper accounting and documentation.
  • Accruals & Reclassifications: Conduct pre-financial reviews for accruals and reclassifications, providing timely feedback to the accounting team.
  • Vendor & Invoice Management: Oversee the check run process, prepare funding requests, and ensure vendor creation is handled efficiently. Reconcile invoices and work with vendors, contractors, and service providers as necessary.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present management reports, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis. Ensure reports are accurate and delivered in a timely manner to senior management.
  • Property Financial Reporting: Work closely with property managers to ensure that financial reporting, KPIs, and ad hoc analyses are completed on time. Assist in providing explanation for budget variances to the community directors.
  • Security Deposits & Management Fees: Manage security deposit postings and true-ups at month-end. Ensure accurate management fee calculations and report generation.
  • Other Accounting Functions: Support month-end close, bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and internal control procedures.


Other Responsibilities & Skills:

  • Management Reports: Lead the preparation of timely and accurate management reports. Conduct variance analysis and summarize findings to present to senior management.
  • Invoice Approvals: Review and approve invoices from community directors, vendors, contractors, and service providers, ensuring proper coding and reconciliation.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Maintain proactive communication with property managers and vendors to ensure smooth operations and timely financial management.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Seven to ten years of experience in real estate accounting (AR, AP, GL) is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with accounting tools such as Entrata or Yardi, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Certifications: CA/CPA preferred but not mandatory.
